Tour to Syunik Province

Colorful tour to Syunik, where you can acquaint yourself with the unique natural and cultural landscape of this southern region of the modern Republic of Armenia.

The tour consists of two separate routes, At their request, the clients can have either a two-day tour or one of the route of your choice.

Route 1

The trip goes along the Yerevan - Meghri Route. The first stopover of the trip is Zorats Karer, an ancient megalithic complex, situated 3 km to the north of Sisian. The complex consists of numerous huge upright stones; some of the stones have holes in the top part. Then we head for Aghitu, famous for a tombstone of the VII c. According to a legend, the inhabitants of Aghitu erected the tombstone to honor the three dukes of Syunik, who defeated the Ruler of Persia. The next stopover is Vorotnavank (X-XI cc.), one of the most significant historic and architectural monuments of southern Armenia. We also visit Vorotnaberd (V c.), which is tightly connected with numerous historic events.

Route 2

The trip goes along the Yerevan - Meghri Route. The first stopover of the trip is Fortress Halidzor, an Armenian architectural complex, situated on the right bank of the Voghji River. It was constructed in the early 17th c. We also plan a stopover at Vahanavank monastery complex (X-XI cc.) located seven km to the west of Kapan. The latter is one of the most significant cultural and architectural monuments, as well as the mausoleum of the kings and dukes of Syunik. We terminate our trip at Fortress Baghaberd (III-IV cc.), located at the confluence of the Geghi and Voghji Rivers. The fortress was destroyed and looted in 1170 by the Seljuks.
